Nicocig, the distributors of the Ruyan e-cigarette, defended their product.
They said they have conducted clinical trials on people, and that their cigarettes are sold only in pharmacies to adults.
Following news articles in The Sun and on the BBC News website today, we would like to make the following comments.
Firstly, as the exclusive distributors for Ruyan, who are the inventors and patent holders of the electronic cigarette, our products have been tested before being marketed here in the UK.
The safety report was carried out to an international and WHO standard.
Dr Murray Laugesen of the New Zealand Health Authority published this report.
The report clearly concludes that “Based on the manufacturer’s information, the composition of the cartridge liquid is not hazardous to health, if used as intended.”
Please note that this safety report is specific to Ruyan products only and does not relate to any other company or product. Ruyan will take legal action on any such misrepresentation.
Secondly, this product is only intended to be used by adults over the age of 18, and not for those that do not already smoke traditional cigarettes. We make this clear on our packaging.
Our products, unlike others, are primarily sold through pharmacies, where advice is available from a qualified medical professional. Here children under the age of 18 years would not be allowed to purchase our product. In bars and pubs where are product are also sold, children under the age of 18 would not be allowed inside.

Nicocig are preparing a large campaign “Cant Stop? Just Swap!” to raise the awareness of our increasingly popular products in Birmingham’s renowned Bullring Shopping Centre on Wednesday March 11th 2009, the ‘National Non-Smoking Day’.
We are inviting all users of Nicocig in the Midlands area to come along and share their thoughts and experiences of the product, and to find out more about new revolutionary products that we will be launching shortly.
The event will last approximately 1 hour and starts at 11:30am. Each attendee will be provided with a ‘Can’t Stop, Just Swap’ t-shirt, and a chance to try new products such as our Nicocig e-gar. Everybody that attends will also be given complimentary boxes of Nicocig cartridges, and will automatically receive our brand new product when we launch it in 6 weeks time.
We hope to see you there outside Selfridges overlooking the Costa Coffee and St Martins Church. We are expecting local press to attend our event, who will be interested in interviews from Nicocig users.
