STAYING WITH THE PARTY…AT CLERKENWELL HOUSE
Ever since the smoking ban hit the UK in 2007, the Bar and Restaurant industry has never been the same.
While some have built smoking shelters to protect their customers from the always beautiful British weather, it often means that smokers must leave the venue and endure standing alone outside until they finish their cigarette.
Clerkenwell House is a bar situated in the heart of London City has implemented a new idea……electronic smoking!
Electronic cigarettes or Nicocigs as they are known, mimic smoking to the extreme. Users will still get the nicotine hit that they crave, but the difference is that they contain no tobacco, and don’t need to be lit.
Probably the most amazing thing about this revolutionary product is that you actually exhale smoke! The smoke however is not like traditional cigarette smoke; it is an odourless water vapour. As there is no risk of passive smoking and never is the cigarette lit, it completely circumvents the smoking ban.
Ebru Al, the bar manager says,
“Our idea behind introducing Nicocig and electronic smoking into our bar was to mainly stop people from going outside to smoke as we are situated in a fairly residential area. The cigars go down especially well with the regulars for our themed nights too. Overall I would say it has been a successful change to our bar.”
Nicocig helped launch the product at Clerkenwell House on Friday 11th September. The event was a huge success, with customers being able to try the products for free before purchasing them from behind the bar.
Andre Davis a bar regular agreed that it was a fantastic idea.
“I am really the only one out of my group of friends who smokes so unless I can drag someone outside with me – it’s a bit boring going outside for a cigarette. It’s great to be able to stay inside with my friends and still have my cigarette at my fingertips!”
When comparing price, the Nicocig Jazz range that Clerkenwell House currently stock works out to be much cheaper than the real thing, with 100 cigarettes worth of smoking only costing £18.99, as opposed to £30+ you would have to pay for the same amount of smoking of traditional cigarettes.
A spokesperson from Nicocig, Mr Birju Pujara said that not only does it allow customers to smoke indoors, but the main benefit is that they are far healthier. By cutting out tobacco it eliminates tar, carbon monoxide, and over 4000 chemicals commonly found in a real cigarette.
He also added that their products are becoming increasingly popular with bars and clubs nationwide, with the concept of electronic smoking really starting to take off.
“Now that the concept is proven to work, we are continuously looking for more and more bars and clubs to take up the idea. We spend a lot of time working with venues in promotion, and the launch nights are always enjoyable!”
